The sheer number of worldwide conferences has increased dramatically over the past few years. This must in part have something to do with the Internet and the ability to sell tickets from anywhere in the world. Thus a well-designed conference website is of vital importance to any event's turnout and success rate.
In this gallery I've put together 45 examples of website layouts created for conferences and festivals. You'll notice many common features like sponsored guests and ticket/lodging details. Each event will have its own unique energy and the website should promote this with confidence to sell tickets and build excitement. After all, without people willing to attend you've got no conference. And without conferences our world would be much different - a world deficient of brilliant keynotes and inspirational TED talks which provide thought-provoking concepts and hours of procrastination.

Free iPhone GUI PSD kits include a lot of the primary elements needed for app design. But sometimes it’s necessary to build your own custom interface elements. I always preferred the older iOS 5-6 UI above the more flat-looking iOS7. Specifically I fell in love with this Microsoft Word app for iPhone created by the very talented Victor Erixon.
In this tutorial I want to demonstrate how to recreate a couple of these same MS Word interface elements from scratch. Building with shapes and paths will allow for an easier process of scaling the graphics to larger sizes. You don’t even need to know a whole lot about Photoshop to follow along with this tutorial. Plus you can download a copy of my PSD file to check out the final result.
Have you ever met a designer or developer who wasn’t a perfectionist to some degree or another? It’s understandable that there are probably few of them, as the aim for perfection often differentiates the good designs from the great ones. Making sure that every element is “just so” can keep designers up at night, toiling away. Being a perfectionist has its advantages. It can help you produce amazing works and dazzle clients. It can help you seal the deal with new customers. It can push you to new challenges and new creative heights. Of course, perfectionism also has its drawbacks. While it’s a good thing to be somewhat of a perfectionist, too much of anything can be bad for you. Striving for perfection means you value quality, but the stress and fear of failing can be paralyzing, reducing your productivity and arresting your creative flow. Perfectionism is a time steeler, as hours can fly by while you’re immersed in the task at hand without even stopping to take a break. You can also feel frustrated, anxious or sad when you can’t reach the satisfaction that comes with a job well done - because you’re never done! Spending too much time in “perfectionist mode” can lead to depression, burnout and even illness, any one of which can cause you to make mistakes. Your productivity can also drop and you could miss deadlines, as you spend too much time on one project before you move on to the next.
Clean minimalist portfolios have been popular for years. Since the goal is to get people focused on your work, minimalism can remove distractions and keep attention where it belongs. Granted more aesthetic features can prove you to be a more competent designer - but they need to be elegant and complementary to the layout.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro with the infamous retina screen display. Everything does look beautiful and there is a noticeable difference in comparison to non-retina icons. However I noticed a problem using Photoshop that others in the web design field have also likely noticed.
Every new document is shown at half-size while the document view claims to be 100%.
Anyone running CS5 or below should not find this to be much of a problem. But CS6 and CC have been updated to include retina-based icons and interfaces. This creates a pixel-dense display in Photoshop(and other Adobe programs) where new documents appear twice as small instead of "regular size". Another way to put this is @1x images will appear tiny because retina Photoshop only uses @2x documents.
